There is a risk of hearing damage and tinnitus associated with all sounds at volumes above 80 dB, especially with frequent and/or prolonged exposure. The risk is determined not only by the volume of the music, but also by how long you are exposed to it and whether your hearing is given sufficient rest to recover. This means that all music, regardless of the genre, can damage your hearing. And that's something you, as a musician, obviously want to avoid!
Tip: Curious about the volume of music in the rehearsal room or in a hall? Download a free decibel meter app for your smartphone. If it indicates that the volume is above 80 dB, music hearing protection is essential.
